The Secret To Our Excellence

PARTNER: Lynn Spencer

All clients have challenges that are unique to their individual situations. I am passionate about our firm serving these essentials and providing clarity and confidence to each. My goal is to make sure that all our clients know we are partners dedicated to their success, and that all feel well served by Killingsworth Spencer.

My background begins with a B.S. degree in Accounting from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. While in college, I was an Administrative Assistant for an international benefits and consulting firm and stayed on as a Retirement Benefits Specialist after graduation. Upon marrying a U.S. Navy sailor, I got
the value of experience in different fields as we moved to new duty stations. I worked for regional bank in Human Resources in Connecticut, co-managed a Temp Agency in New York, and managed a large Marina in Washington State, all before having children and then choosing to Home School them, leading
to many volunteer opportunities in my community through those years.

Homeschooling, community involvement, and the different work experiences made a natural path to Partnership as CFOO with Janet Killingsworth soon after joining her firm as an admin in 2015. I encourage all to live each moment to the fullest; one seldom knows what opportunities lie in our
experiences.

“’Well done’ is better than ‘Well said’”, Benjamin Franklin.

  Janet Killingsworth, CPA

Janet Lynne Killingsworth, CPA
1961 – 2023

Janet was an extraordinary woman and a trailblazer in so many ways. She made Partner at the age of 28 in a large local firm – Halligan & Associates, CPA, P.C. After Tony’s passing in 1992, Janet kept Tony’s legacy alive with his clients that dated back to the mid-1950s. Janet forged another trail in 2001 when she formed Killingsworth CPA, P.C. Some of Janet’s many gifts included her ability to analyze and break down complex tax problems for her clients so they were more easily understood. She also had a gift to teach her staff.

Janet was married to John R. McAlister for nearly 31 years, and she leaves behind two magnificent daughters. She fought her battle with Metastatic Breast Cancer with dignity and grace. Some of her last wishes included keeping the Killingsworth Spencer CPAs culture and the team together. Anyone who ever met Janet knew her to be a great friend and inspiration. Her legacy will live on with a host of friends, clients, and colleagues who miss her smile, kindness, and passion for her work.

Resident Tax Manager: Judy Bernhard, CPA

Judy Bernhard, CPA, is not only our Resident Tax Manager, but she also heads up our tax resolution department. She is a native of Baton Rouge, LA. She is a graduate of LSU with a degree in Accounting, along with an MBA. She taught accounting classes at LSU. She became a licensed CPA in 1985. Judy has been with Killingsworth CPA, P.C. (now Killingsworth Spencer, LLC) since 2005. She works with clients on their business and personal tax returns and she is the person you want on your team when there is an accounting mess to clean up. She fights for her client’s rights the same way she would for a family member. She is blunt and “to the point”, but when clients see the results of her efforts when she’s working to solve their tax debt, they understand this attitude gets RESULTS.

OUR ASSOCIATES:

Dan Womack, CPA

I have been a CPA practicing in Atlanta since the early 80’s. I have a degree in accounting from The University of Tennessee. My areas of expertise include tax and working with small business owners. I also do estate tax returns (706) and gift tax returns (709). When not working I like to play guitar in a cover band with other friends who also want to retain their youth.

Andrea Altman

Hey there, I am Andrea Altman. I have a BS in Accounting from State University of New York at New Paltz. I started my public accounting career in 1994 after moving south (for good) to Atlanta. I have 25 years’ experience in payroll and payroll taxes, sales tax, QuickBooks, corporate, partnership and individual taxation. In my off time I enjoy traveling, gardening, venturing to new restaurants (and then trying to replicate the better dishes at home), reading, and spending time with my cats.

Mary Nadler

Hi, my name is Mary Nadler, and I am the new Bookkeeping professional here at Killingsworth Spencer. I have been involved in the accounting and bookkeeping profession for over 25 years and I love working with numbers. I especially like to help our clients be able to make better financial decisions when they have up-to-date books and records. I grew up in Cape Cod, MA, and I love the Ocean. Yes, the water is always cold, and I am a Patriot’s fan. I must admit that I prefer the warmer waters of the Gulf of Mexico. I love music (especially Fleetwood Mac and I have seen them live at least ten times), travel, movies, reading, and a good steak. I have a 26-year-old daughter and we still enjoy spending time together when we can.

I was born in Detroit, Michigan. I grew up competing in gymnastics from an early age and believe that experience helps me in my day-to-day duties here at Killingsworth Spencer. In 2012, my family and I relocated to Milton, Georgia.

I am currently pursuing a degree at Georgia State University. Here at Killingsworth Spencer, I use my desire to help clients and enjoy being able to serve every person that walks through the door or calls us on the phone.

Lisa Laday

Raised in a large family valuing hard work and discipline, the seeds of becoming a CPA were sown long before it became a career option. Early on, I always had an affinity for mathematics and problem-solving. My career began at age 17 working as an Accounting Clerk in my hometown of Lafayette, LA, where my love for numbers and problem solving grew. In college, I went on to a student-work study in the payroll department at Louisiana State University while I worked on my Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. Recently, I have had the gratification of providing
mentoring and assistance to others beyond my business ventures, volunteering with local non-profits and other community organizations such as MUST Ministries, United Way of the Midlands, Teammates Mentoring Program of Nebraska, the Women’ Business Center, and Swanson Center for Human Nutrition.

My enjoyment as a Certified Public Accountant and licensed Risk Management Professional grew and became about managing financial order and stability for businesses in a world filled with complexity and uncertainty. Over the years, it has become evident that being a CPA entails much more than crunching numbers. From engaging in Governmental and Public Entity audits, Tax Planning, and Business Ownership, to assisting startups with financial and business planning, my portfolio expands with diverse and impactful engagements with a dedication to helping entrepreneurs thrive in business.

As a mother of 3, I continue to grow personally and professionally through the fiery trials of life and helping my kids develop and walk into their purpose and someday careers.

Rebekah Littleton

I began my working career in retail and eventually found myself as a cake decorator for roughly 5 years. Finally, with the support of a very close friend, I decided to go to college. This helped fulfill a dream I never thought was possible. I graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting in 2018. Shortly after, in 2020, I graduated with a Masters of Accountancy.

I have worked in public accounting since 2019, during which I worked with a variety of business owners; doctors, contractors, retailers, manufacturers, veterinarians, and real estate professionals to name a few. I enjoy teaching my clients about tax law and how to set them up for success in the future. I am currently pursuing my CPA to round out my professional credentials. If I am not in the office, I will be spending time with my son hiking, playing video games, painting, or training our German Shepherd, Theo.
